Sacramento Office Adds 21ft WORKSKIFF to Fleet
BURLINGTON, WA – July 2005 – WORKSKIFF, Inc., builder of aluminum boats for severe service, has recently delivered a 21ft research vessel to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Sacramento field office. The boat will be used for heavy-duty field work, including wildlife monitoring in the San Francisco Bay-Delta estuary.
The WORKSKIFF is replacing the Sacramento office's old, smaller boats. Fish and Wildlife Service biologists needed a versatile boat that could handle San Francisco Bay’s rough waters but still get them into the narrow, shallow sloughs in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. Currently, service researchers are using the WORKSKIFF for investigations on mercury effects on terns, diving ducks, and shorebirds and to study pollution effects on the Sacramento splittail, a native California fish. It will also be used for oil-spill response activities involving searching for oiled birds and wildlife, and documenting impacts to wetland habitats.
WORKSKIFFs Steve Perry said, “We see each of our boats as tools to help people do their jobs. Working with the Sacramento office to meet their team’s needs was great. We feel good when we can help out and always aim to exceeding our customer’s expectations.”
The USFW-Sacramento 21ft hull features include T-top console, leaning box seat, lockable storage, tow bit, rope guard, rubber guard rail, hydraulic steering, heavy duty awning rack, removable dive door and davit. The navigation equipment includes compass, horn and GPS. Dive door and awning rack were specifically configured to the exact needs of the customer.
WORKSKIFF 21’ specifications: WORKSKIFF uses only premium marine grade 5086 aluminum. Length, 21’2”; beam 93”.Full-depth longitudinal girders are used in an integrated foam-filled double bottom construction. A 6' wide self-bailing aft deck and twin 30-gallon fuel tanks are standard. Like all WORKSKIFF boats, the 21' model is unsinkable and trailerable.
